Hi, I’m Katie

I’m a former classroom teacher turned online teacherpreneur. Having taught in the UK, China and Japan, as well as online since 2013, I was fed up of the chaos of school classrooms and disheartened by the paycuts at the online ESL company I worked for.

					Chinese Social Media Marketing Course Hi Katie, what a brilliant course! I have completed a few of your online training modules, as well as a subscription to Abridge Academy.  I am overall impressed with this course, as I feel it as helped me move in the right direction. After gaining knowledge about Douyin ( which I had never heard of) to deciding who my target audience really is and how to attract them. How is this program delivered? Are there live sessions?

This program is fully self-paced, enabling you to work through the modules flexibility around your teaching and life commitments. There are no live sessions.u003cbru003eEach module is packed full of actionable content, including many templates and guided tasks to help you implement everything. u003cbru003eIn the comments section of each lesson, you can engage and share ideas with other learners, as well as ask questions to receive individual feedback from myself. u003cbru003eAdditionally, you will be invited to occasional public webinars, including from guest experts.

How long will I have access to the courses?

You will have lifetime access to the courses, for just a one-off payment today.

Can I really earn $50+/ hr?

I hate to make income promises, so would never guarantee you can earn $100+/hr or $5k+/month like some coaches may claim. It will depend a lot on your personal background, qualifications, expertise, etc.u003cbru003eHowever, in my experience, many successful online ESL teachers are earning over $50/ hr (of teaching time) and that is certainly an achievable goal. The key is to position yourself as an expert in your specialism.u003cbru003eIn this program, I will guide you to find a specialism that fits your qualifications, skills and experiences while targeting higher-paying students online. Additionally, many teachers have scaled their income further by offering group classes, multi-medium programs and courses.

I am not a native English speaker, can I still be successful?

Absolutely! More than 50% of teachers I’ve worked with have been non-native English speakers. u003cbru003eAs a non-native speaker, you have the unique advantage of being an expert in learning English as a foreign language – because you did it yourself! The key is to use your bilingualism as an advantage, positioning yourself as a language learning coach helping others achieve the same. u003cbru003eAlternatively, many non-native English speakers have also found specialisms teaching their native language, other academic subjects, business coaching, etc. Don’t just limit yourself to beginners ESL!

Do I need any existing teaching experience?

This is not a teacher training course. Instead, it primarily focuses on business and marketing skills. u003cbru003eWhile there are no formal requirements in terms of teaching experience / qualifications, I would recommend that this program is best suited to those who have either taught with an online teaching company before or as a classroom teacher in school. Alternatively, you may be able to use expertise gained from mentoring or coaching in industry, positioning yourself as a business English teacher or coach. u003cbru003eRealistically, learners will be looking for you to have some demonstrated expertise to persuade them to take classes with you. Being a great teacher will also help you boost student retention and referrals!

Do I need any tech skills?

This program assumes that you have some core level of tech skills, as it is generally essential for being an online teacher.u003cbru003eThis includes using drag-and-drop design tools like Canva, using social media apps, translating between Chinese and your native language with translation tools, etc. u003cbru003eMore complex tech skills such as video editing will be covered in the course tutorials, don’t worry!

How long will it take to get my first student?

I’ll be honest, this really depends on a lot of factors, particularly how quickly you work on implementing the training from this program. In my experience, most online teachers are able to find their first few students within 1-2 months of starting, but always remember that results are not guaranteed. It is important to work on your business mindset, sales and marketing skills to be successful.
